We Stay Open

As you might expect with all that is going on both globally and locally, it’s been a busier time than usual for our teams at The Athenian.

Throughout the year we have readjusted and diversified in order to stay open, and now in day 1 of a second lockdown, we will continue to serve and grow as a business. All our venues will remain open, thanks to the fantastic addition of touch screen ordering ensuring both customer and staff safety. In the last week we achieved great success in opening brand new Reading and Cambridge locations in partnership with Deliveroo Editions, providing jobs to the local areas. We are proud to say both sites required no local advertising in order to hit the ground running. Both are ahead of budget and it’s extremely reassuring to see new brilliant new teams building, generating rising sales in the first 10 days of business. The story continues through lockdown as Wood Green in London is due to open immanently, along with Birmingham shortly after.

These are two fabulous new locations for our business, again with Deliveroo, reaching out to new parts of North London and finally being available to the City of Birmingham, who have always been very vocal in their requests for our food on social media. A very exciting time for us all.As ever at this challenging time, we are focused on the wellbeing of our valued staff. Mental health is something we all need to talk about more and exactly why we have our programme which includes an anonymous contact available to all of our teams, allowing them to reach out if they feel affected both in or out of work.

This is financed and supported by our business as we all need to know someone is there for us during tough times. We have also introduced our Athenian Heroes card for all team members, giving them proof should they need it, that they are traveling to work and performing a vital role for us all.

Our staff truly are heroes to us, they continue to exceed expectations, allowing us to stay strong and grow together. We would not be where we are now without them and we hope that the amazing level of service they provide keeps you all fed and upbeat during another battle to the other side of national lockdown. Good luck to all in the service industry and please keep doing the amazing work you do.
