During the Coronavirus Pandemic

Our people are our soul

As this unprecedented crisis unfolds, we continue to adapt daily in order to make sure that our teams are safe and healthy. As a lot of restaurants have decided to temporarily close during the coronavirus pandemic, we decided to stay open. We truly believe that it is in times of crises that companies and individuals show their true values and principals.

We want to be there for all the health workers that are working around the clock, without a break.

We want to be there for those who are at home, all alone. In quarantine, in self-isolation. With no-one to go out and get food for them.

We want to be there for our team. To safeguard their jobs and livelihoods once this is all over.

Recently we launched a weekly parcel with basic necessities like lentils, tomatoes, pasta and toilet roll for our employees to make sure that all Athenians will have their basic necessities covered no matter what.  Our goal is to retain every single member of the team. We’re also giving people a choice between going on furlough and continuing to work in our delivery only kitchens.

We also launched the “Walk to Work” scheme, where we pay our employees in order to walk or cycle to work. As the London Underground service is reduced and overcrowded, we do not want to be taking any risks.

On top of that we’re giving our team Deliveroo discount vouchers to order food at home.

We also launched alone zones in our kitchens for social distancing while working. Only one person is allowed within an alone zone. That’s on top of protective gear like face masks, gloves and visors.

The reason we decided to stay open is to cater for all of those in need of food at hospitals, surgeries, care homes and in isolation. By staying open we won’t be making a profit. But we’re doing so to maintain jobs and help our society power through this.

We’re grateful to our very own Athenian heroes.

We’re grateful to our health service heroes.

This is why we’re donating 2500 meals to the NHS.
